Pressure drops sharply on one of Nord Stream 2 lines

MOSCOW, 26 Sep — PRIME. An emergency occurred on one of the strings of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, at night the pressure dropped sharply in a pipe filled with technical gas, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project told RIA Novosti.

“Tonight, the Nord Stream 2 onshore site controller recorded a sharp drop in pressure in line A,” the message says.

The incident was immediately reported to the coast services of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia, and an investigation began.

The construction of Nord Stream 2, stretching to Germany across the Baltic Sea, was completed in September 2021. The pipeline operator is Nord Stream 2 AG, and Gazprom is the sole shareholder.

The pipe, whose maximum capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year, was filled with technical gas and fully prepared for the start of pumping. However, the certification of the project was frozen by the German regulator.

Last weekend, about three thousand people went to a rally in Lubmin, Germany, demanding the launch of Nord Stream 2. According to local media, the demonstrators also demanded affordable energy supplies.
