MOSCOW, 7 Sep — PRIME. Nord Stream 2 was not laid in vain, the gas pipeline will be turned on if the need arises, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.
“We are not building anything in vain… If necessary, please, we will turn on Nord Stream 2,” he said.
The construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, stretching to Germany through the Baltic Sea, was completed in September 2021. Its operator is Nord Stream 2 AG, and its sole shareholder is Gazprom.
The pipe, whose maximum capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year, was filled with technical gas and fully prepared for the start of pumping. However, the certification of the project was frozen by the German regulator.
