Radeon R9 290X is sold out in anticipation of the 300 series

After more than 18 months on the market, the clock is starting to tick for the flagships in the Radeon 200 series. Admittedly, a new generation is on the way, but the success of Nvidia’s latest architecture Maxwell puts AMD in an increasingly vulnerable position. As many as three out of four graphics cards sold are now a Geforce.

The fact that sales are sluggish forces AMD to cut margins and give extensive discounts to resellers so that they have the opportunity to empty their stocks before the Radeon 300 series arrives during the summer months. This is especially evident when it comes to the flagships in the series.

The price reductions are not only visible on the actual price tag but on the fact that prices have not increased despite the strong dollar. The discount campaigns take turns and oddly enough, it is often possible to get a Radeon R9 290X at more or less the same price as for the scaled-down Radeon R9 290.

The fact that the flagships in the series are being sold out is explained by the fact that there are large stocks and that these models have also been hit hardest by the competition from the Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980. June.
