Razer launches the Blade Stealth laptop and the external graphics dock Core

The Blade laptop series from Razer probably sounds familiar to many people. The models combine compact exterior dimensions in combination with high performance, something that has made enthusiasts around the world curiously raise their eyebrows.

For CES 2016, Razer is taking the opportunity to further broaden the Blade family. The newcomer is called Blade Stealth, and is a compact Ultrabook with a screen size of 12.5 inches. The computer comes in three different versions, where common hardware includes a mobile Intel Core i7 processor from the Skylake generation and 8 GB of RAM.

The difference is instead the screen resolution and storage space. The base model has 128 GB SSD and the resolution 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, the middle model comes with 256 GB SSD and the top variant 256 GB or 512 GB SSD with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.

On the graphics front, the computer has Intel’s integrated circuit, which is hardly something for gaming. The solution is instead called Razer Core, and is an external graphics doll. Connection is via Thunderbolt 3 via USB Type-C, where the result is both a USB hub and 4x PCI Express 3.0 for the graphics card.

The Core itself is a sturdy aluminum box, which holds a graphics card from either AMD or Nvidia. The drawer is opened by the lid “sliding off”, which gives access to the interior and assembly of hardware. Connections are available in the form of four USB 3.0 ports and an Ethernet socket for gigabit networks.

The Razer Blade Stealth will be launched during the first quarter of 2016, and prices start at $ 999 – equivalent to approximately SEK 11,000 including VAT. The Core graphics doll will be rolled out later in the year at a hitherto unknown price tag.
