Remote administration using standard Windows components

Maintenance of remote computers, their configuration and installation of the required programs, perhaps, is always performed using remote administration tools. Remote administration significantly speeds up the response rate of a specialist, because in most cases a specialist who maintains computers of a company (which is located at a significant distance) does not go to the place of demand, but in a calm atmosphere solves the problem through remote administration.
Remote administration tools are mainly distributed commercially as standalone products, or are offered along with the operating system. These remote administration tools are Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance in Windows XP.
“Remote Assistance” – comes with a Windows operating system of all specifications, and is automatically activated after the operating system is installed. Remote Assistance is in many ways inferior to Remote Desktop in functionality, but it is quite sufficient to provide access to the screen of a remote computer. The procedure for connecting using Remote Assistance is a little inconvenient and requires sending a connection invitation, which is saved to a file. The recipient of this file launches it, enters the password if necessary, connects to the problem computer, the “Remote Assistance” window will appear on the screen. In this case, files, voice and text messages can be exchanged between the connected computers, and, if necessary, the user to whom the connection was made can terminate it at any time.
Remote Desktop — this remote administration component is present in Windows XP Professional and is automatically enabled when the operating system is installed. Remote Desktop is rich in settings and connects to other computers using Terminal Services, which gives it the ability to gain full access over the client machine not only with Windows installed, but also Linux. Configuring a connection to the “Remote Desktop” is carried out by an extended set of parameters (connection speed, availability of local resources, screen resolution, printer availability, etc.)
“Remote Assistance” and “Remote Desktop” standard tools of operating systems of the Windows family are much inferior to third-party products, but remote administration products are best suited in situations where there are simply no alternative products.
