RTX 3060 Twin X2 : Appearance and features

Since the video card belongs to the budget Twin series, the appearance of the accelerator is quite laconic: a gray case with a minimal relief, the whole design consists in corrugation of the CO casing with broken lines. It looks, however, very good – restrained and even stylish.

There is almost no backlighting here either – the manufacturer abandoned RGB in order not to increase the cost of the card. So only the INNO3D logo on the edge of the card is highlighted (white, not too bright). For some, this will even be a plus.

The video card as a whole turned out to be very compact, it can be easily installed in a case for Mini-ITX systems. Dimensions – 240x120x40 mm, so the card takes up only 2 expansion slots. Additional power is supplied only through one 8pin cable, which is also nice – almost any power supply will do, especially since the standard consumption of the accelerator is only 170 watts.

INNO3D RTX 3060 Twin X2 OC will allow you to connect up to 4 monitors simultaneously: there are 3 DisplayPort 1.4a ports and one HDMI 2.1. Most of the panel area is occupied by a grill for hot air exhaust.

At both ends in the CO casing there are large openings for free air flow into the radiator. There is also a metal backplate that serves as a heat dissipator. It does not protrude much above the board – only about 5 mm.

Cooling system RTX 3060 Twin X2

Even without removing the backplate from the video card, you can see that the board here is quite small, and almost half of the case is occupied by the radiator of the cooling system. Removing the casing together with the radiator, it becomes obvious – a very massive cooling system fits into a small-sized video card.

It has three sections, connected by 4 heat pipes with a diameter of 6 mm. The radiator sole is made of copper, fixed in a massive metal plate, which reliably fixes and protects the PCB.

Heat removal from memory chips is implemented using thermal pads. They are also found on the elements of the power supply circuits.

But on the backplate there are no thermal pads, so here it is unlikely to make a significant contribution to cooling. The main thing is that many holes have been cut on it, which freely allow air to pass inside.

Radiator airflow is provided by two 90 mm fans – Champion CF9010H12S (DC 12V 0.35A). They have a common power cable and is connected under the radiator, so for replacement you will need to remove both the casing and the radiator.

Printed circuit board

The INNO3D RTX 3060 Twin X2 OC board itself is very compact, 145 mm long, with a dense arrangement of components. The Ampere GA106-300-A1 graphics processor is located almost in the center of the board (8 nm process technology, 3584 CUDA cores, 48 ​​raster and 112 texture units).

The board contains 6 GDDR6 memory chips of 2 GB each – it communicates with the chip via a 192-bit bus, which gives a bandwidth of up to 360 GB / s. In our case, memory chips from Samsung are soldered on the board.

The power supply of the video card is organized according to an 8-phase scheme – 6 phases per GPU subsystem (with DrMOS Alpha & Omega AOZ5311 components), and 2 more phases with UBIQ Semiconductor QA3111 power elements are allocated for memory chips.

To control the power system on the board, controllers are used: uPI uP9512R – for the GPU subsystem, and uPI uP1666Q, located on the back side, for video memory.

The proprietary utility TuneIT is responsible for managing the video card, which can be downloaded from the official INNO3D website. It has all the basic functions – overclocking, temperature monitoring and fan speed control, as well as updating the BIOS firmware and setting the backlight (if any).

Testing

For tests, let’s install the video card into a system assembled in a compact Thermaltake The Tower 100 case, but with the side panels removed, which actually means an open stand.

TDP of the video card, judging by the GPU-Z 2.40.0 data, is limited to 170 W, so for overclocking it won’t be possible to raise the consumption too much. On the other hand, there is already a small factory overclocking – instead of the base 1320 MHz, the GPU operates at a frequency of up to 1792 MHz in boost mode.

The video card, in the absence of load on the GPU, switches to passive mode, and the rotation of the fans stops, thus the card becomes completely silent. At idle, the chip does not heat up above 42 ° C.

To load the GPU, we will use the game mode – launch The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at high settings in Full HD resolution. After a while, the chip warms up to about 68 ° C – this is its average operating temperature at a fan speed in auto mode of about 1900 RPM. At the same time, the Boost core frequency is kept at the level of 1875 MHz, which coincides with the value of the memory frequency. At the same time, the fan noise is about 37 dBA, which is quite a bit for high speeds.

During overclocking, we managed to set the frequencies to +140 MHz for the core and +1100 MHz for the memory. At these values, the video card worked stably. For overclocking, we used the popular MSI Afterburner utility. At the same time, the temperature of the chip increased insignificantly, within the limits of error. The fan speed increased slightly – up to 62% or 2000 RPM, but the noise level did not exceed 38 dBA.

Overclocking increases the results obtained in the 3DMark benchmark complex by about 3-5%, which is quite noticeable. The scores are generally high, even in heavy modes, although they are still noticeably inferior to the performance of the older RTX 3060 Ti.

In games at maximum graphics settings, the INNO3D RTX 3060 Twin X2 OC shows excellent FPS in FullHD resolution – at least 50 FPS for Metro Exodus and 70-80 FPS for slightly less demanding AAA games. This means that in FullHD 1920×1080, the video card provides quite comfortable gaming in modern projects, and by and large it will be completely enough for a gaming assembly. If you use a top-end processor with high frequencies in the assembly, then, most likely, a similar FPS level will be achieved for 2K resolution, which makes the video card even more interesting.

Conclusion

INNO3D RTX 3060 Twin X2 OC has features that are not quite usual for an entry-level video card in the line: a large amount of GDDR6 memory – 12 GB, high performance – it may well be enough even for not too demanding 2K gaming, and in FullHD it will provide a comfortable FPS level for games in all new products at maximum settings. In the INNO3D version, the card received good CO – the chip is cooled efficiently and operating temperatures in games fluctuate around 68-70 ° C at 60-70% fan speed. This allows the graphics card to be reasonably quiet. TDP is limited to 170 W, so serious overclocking will not work – but within the possible limits, about + 5% performance and an extra few FPS in games are achievable, which is also not bad. The card also has factory overclocking, so you don’t have to do it yourself.

It is also worth considering the compactness – the video card is only 240 mm long and occupies only 2 slots, which makes it possible to install it in cases of any standard size, up to mini-ITX. Together with high performance, low noise level and high-quality CO, this makes the card a good enough solution for a gaming PC, and also much more affordable than the flagships of the series.
