CHISINAU, Sep 13 – PRIME. Romania is looking for solutions to provide Moldova with the necessary volumes of gas and electricity, said Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Chuca.
“Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Chuca assured that Romania is making every effort to find solutions for the supply, transit and storage of gas needed by Moldova,” the press service of the Romanian government said after Chuca’s meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa.
As noted in the message, the supply of electricity should be provided at the expense of the existing infrastructure, and in the medium and long term, it is necessary to provide for new inter-grid lines.
The Romanian government stressed that Bucharest has already started implementing specific projects aimed at supporting Moldova in the field of energy and gas supply.
Moldova is facing a serious energy crisis and rising fuel prices. The country’s authorities plan to reduce gas consumption in winter by at least 15% and have already submitted for discussion a plan that involves turning off street lighting, lowering the central heating temperature, transferring schoolchildren and students to distance learning.
On August 1, the Moldovagaz company began to cut off gas supplies to consumers who did not pay their bills on time.
