Rosatom will submit documents for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia

MOSCOW, 14 Oct – PRIME. Rosatom will soon submit documents as part of the competition for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

“Today, Saudi Arabia is planning to implement the first project to build a nuclear power plant. Our company, Rosatom, is participating in the competition for the implementation of this project. And the relevant necessary documents will be submitted in the near future,” Novak said in an interview with Asharq News.

At the same time, Russia expects that cooperation in this industry will develop not only in the construction of the nuclear power plant itself, but also in the use of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes in general, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

Since October 2017, Rosatom has been participating in a competitive dialogue on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Saudi Arabia. It was about what nuclear power plant Riyadh wants to get. The possibility of building a nuclear power plant of small or medium power was not ruled out. Russia is competent in the construction of small units for floating and land-based nuclear power plants, and the Russian Federation is ready to provide Saudi Arabia with relevant proposals in this area if Riyadh shows interest, Novak himself said earlier.
