Rostec will supply power units for Sakhalin CHPP-1

MOSCOW, 4 Oct — PRIME. UEC-Aviadvigatel signed a contract with Sakhalinenergo (part of RusHydro) for the supply of two power units for the Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHPP-1, the Rostec company said.

UEC-Aviadvigatel (part of Rostec’s United Engine Corporation) signed a contract with Sakhalinenergo for the supply of two power units for Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHPP-1. The equipment has a total capacity of 50 MW and will ensure the stability of the island’s energy system.

It is noted that the units were created on the basis of PS-90A aircraft engines to provide industrial and domestic facilities with electricity. The unit can be used as a main or backup energy source, able to operate in parallel with the power system, use natural and associated petroleum gas, liquid fuel as fuel.

“In accordance with the agreement, both EGES-25PA power units will be put into operation in 2024,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec, whose words are also quoted in the message.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHPP-1 supplies electricity to most of Sakhalin, provides heat to the largest city of the island – Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The plant’s installed capacity is 455 MW, of which 230 MW is produced by gas turbine units commissioned in 2013-2014.

Sakhalinenergo provides centralized power supply to 13 out of 18 municipalities of the region and heat supply to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. It operates the largest power plants in the region – Sakhalinskaya GRES-2 and Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHPP-1.
