GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 GAMING OC – Background
In the fall of 2021, I built a video editing PC in DaVinci Resolve 17. Due to the limited budget, I had to build on a Ryzen 5600G processor with an eye to a future upgrade with a discrete graphics card. I have already done a review on this topic at the club, if you are interested, find it, read it.

Yes, the assembly turned out to be working and for the FullHD format in Davinchi, in principle, it was enough. But it was clearly felt that the graphics core has become the bottleneck of the entire system.
For example, I had a black screen problem. About once a day, without warning, the screen would suddenly turn black. And the computer didn’t seem to notice. All turntables continued to work quietly. Waiting for the PC to “come to its senses” was useless, I had to load from the button.
The most interesting thing is that the problem never occurred when working in davinci. Even when I loaded it well, the system took it out. But when working with a photo or just scrolling through a site, the light suddenly went out.
I didn’t know exactly what the problem was, I suspected that the matter was in the insertion, but there wasn’t much time to figure it out.
But with the installation of the RTX 3050 graphics card, the problem was gone.
Is it for Real ? – Video card selection
I will say right away that I did not even consider buying a used card or from somewhere according to a muddy scheme. I am not particularly interested in giving my money for a technically complex product without a guarantee.

Initially, I considered the 1660 Super card. Its price tag was from 47 thousand rubles. Therefore, when I learned about the sales of 3050 at prices of 27-40K, I became interested. Since the 3050 outperformed the 1660 Super by 5-7% in tests, this was quite an interesting proposition.
And here it is worth talking a little about prices and pricing. The fact is that for some unknown reason, most people believe that if the card once cost three times cheaper, then the time will come and the price will return.
They look at some card and say it costs so much. For example, I have seen comments like the price of 3050 many times should be 18-20 thousand rubles. At the same time, the 1050Ti costs 26 thousand rubles in the store. What’s the point of making your own price tag? Does it make it cheaper? Of course not.
And of course RRC. This figure of 27K is procrastinated by all and sundry. At every forum, waving her like a flag. It should cost 27, sell it to me for 27 when it’s 27, but 27 is expensive for her, etc.
And don’t care about the card package. OS not OS, one twister or three. Sell for 27 and that’s it.
It’s funny how thousands of people call the RRC wrong. RRP is not measured in rubles, RRP is measured in dollars. If you do not see the difference, then I will try to explain.
Today, one dollar costs under 80 rubles. And tomorrow it can become, for example, 150 rubles. You can certainly not believe it, but I remember a dollar for 6 rubles. And then today’s prices will seem to us not so wild.
All this I mean is that if you think that it cannot be worse and it will ONLY get better. I will upset you. It could be worse. As they say, whoever finds the bottom, the second bottom is a gift.
In general, waiting for a price reduction on something is a rather stupid idea. If you look at the cost of any product, from a bottle of milk to a car, it turns out that a couple of years ago everything was much cheaper. There are of course exceptions, but these are rare occurrences.

How to Buy The Buy GeForce RTX 3050: Purchase process
Carousels are of two types. There are children’s, unhurried ones, where everyone has fun and everyone laughs. And there are for adults, at whom people scream, swear, money fly out of their pockets and everyone is sick.
Carousel CSN I think was built exactly according to the second type. I bought the card on the second wave. I decided in advance that I would not even try to buy the cheapest one. From the choice that there was looked after GAMING OC from gigabytes.
From the inscription “the process of placing an order” after forty minutes of sitting in front of the monitor, it really started to feel sick. I was about to finish my attempts when the payment gateway suddenly fell out.
The card arrived in two days. The only thing, after all this, I thought that I would come to the CSN and they would solemnly hand it over to me there. The whole staff of the dns, the mayor of the city will gather, they will congratulate me, they will hand me a warranty card in a glass frame and, under the explosions of firecrackers, they will give me the card itself.
But no. They just took it out and gave it away indifferently. It’s even kinda sad…

Packaging and equipment
The card comes in a double-layer package. First, a colorful box with various inscriptions, but inside …
… and inside the box is another box. Now black with GIGABYTE inscription.
But inside the second box is the card itself, in a thick layer of foam.
The card is packed in a plastic bag sealed with a piece of yellow tape with the inscription gigabyte. In general, it is rather strange that there are no seals on the packaging at all. Get whoever you want and touch as you like. What is the problem with sticking a seal on a black box is completely incomprehensible to me.
By configuration. The whole package is some kind of piece of paper / incomplete instructions and four plugs for connectors. Even strange somehow. I have a gigabyte mother. There is a nameplate in the kit and a mountain of stickers, even though the entire system unit is pasted over. And there’s nothing.
Appearance
The map looks quite decent from all sides. It’s nice to see her in my aquarium. The card is very miniature and entered the case with a large margin both in length and width.
There is an RGB backlight in the form of the inscription GIGABYTE. I had to install the application, because the default inscription flashed in different colors and infuriated. The backlight can be turned off completely, but I decided to leave it. I just made it burning without effects and turned down the brightness as much as possible. The settings were immediately applied to the mother from the giga. But there, the backlight is made behind the processor sack in such a way that in order to see it, you have to get confused. Get up from the table and take a look.
Tests in DaVinci Resolve 17
I will say right away that I am not very interested in how loud the card makes noise. I don’t hear any difference at all when the card’s fans are spinning and when they’re not. If only the throttle did not squeal, okay.
How much FPS the card gives out in some game or what temperature with a shaggy donut also interests me a little. In any case, the Internet is full of such tests.
But how the card affects the performance of the system as a whole and DaVinci Resolve 17 in particular was interesting. Since the PC was going to work.
Firstly, the PC with the card has become much more cheerful. If earlier, when viewing footage from the camera, when you turn on any video, there was a delay of several seconds at first, but now they open almost instantly.
With DaVinci Resolve 17, the computer has also become more productive. Lost lag when adding transitions to the timeline. Previously, the system began to freeze for about five seconds. Now the transitions are thrown without slowdowns.
Render speed. Here I was disappointed. If the rendering speed of a 10-minute video in FullHD and a frame rate of 25 frames per second on the graphics core was 3 minutes 26 seconds. Then with a video card, it accelerated by as much as 4 seconds and became 3:22. A strange result, considering that as far as I know, davinci should use the power of the video card when rendering. But here the result is at the level of error.
In the fusion tab, the performance of the system has become noticeably better. The speed of the node prerender has increased by an order of magnitude. On the GPU, when using the pEmitter node with 12000 particles, my preview dropped to about 1 frame in 30 seconds. With a video card, it became somewhere at the level of 1 frame per three seconds. The result, of course, is far from ideal, but at least it is quite possible to work with short-term projects of a few seconds.
The speed of uploading video segments to the timeline has also become a little faster. But in general, it has been pretty fast before.
The speed of work in other tabs and on the graphics core was at a good level. Therefore, the transition to a video card did not particularly affect their work.

With this graphics card, the PC has become noticeably more productive for work tasks. But I would not say that this is straight heaven and earth. I think that on the graphics core it would be possible to hold out longer. I didn’t see any fundamental difference in davinchi. I am very glad that the problem of the black screen disappeared, because this moment really bothered me. Generally speaking, I’m happy with the purchase. At least now I don’t care what the situation is with crypto, mining, shortages, outbids and other obscurantism.
