Rumors of Nvidia RTX Super Shortage Hinting Price Increase!

Pre-order now or will you regret it later?

For those users looking to purchase one of Nvidia’s new RTX Super graphics cards, there is some worrying news about product shortages and potential price increases due to lack of inventory.

The Eteknix report notes vague rumors that have formed around retailers trying to get “significant” quantities of Nvidia’s new Super-graphics cards onto store shelves (be they brick-and-mortar or online retailers).

Obviously, this is a rather vague statement, so we need to treat it with extreme caution. However, at least when looking at current UK inventory levels – this is the market that Eteknix reports (which is why we will quote prices in pounds in this article) – the number of graphics cards is not that great. Most of the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super models are out of stock or sold out long ago (the RTX 2080 Super is not officially available yet).

You can take the information whatever you want, but inventory issues are not unheard of in the GPU world, and the slow proliferation of new Nvidia graphics cards shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

By the way, the picture in the US and Russian markets seems to be similar, although the 2060 Super model is presented somewhat better.

In any case, Eteknix goes further, suggesting that a scenario like this could lead to higher prices for “Super” graphics cards – again, a similar scenario we’ve seen before with graphics cards that were out of line with demand.

The tech site reveals a specific example of price increases seen in the UK, where the Zotac GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Amp Extreme 8GB is being sold for £ 500 in multiple stores. That’s slightly more than the $ 479 RRP for the RTX 2070 Super (although this is a slightly redesigned model from Zotac, equipped with three fans, which often drives up the price).

Eteknix then notes that prices have now risen to £ 539.99 (Overclockers), £ 529.99 (eBuyer) and £ 527.99 (Scan), which remains true at the time of writing, except that Overclockers has raised the price to £ 548.99. CCL has raised the price of the graphics card to £ 587.

By the way, none of the listed stores currently have Zotac video cards, and you can only pre-order it (again, the situation potentially indicates a lack of stock).

Eternix concluded that moderate price increases are already underway, but higher price tags may be on the horizon with an alleged shortage of graphics cards.

| A NARROW LOOK

How fair is what is happening? Well, things don’t look good, but the tech site has a very narrow focus on graphics cards from Zotac, and there are also cheaper models from other manufacturers on the market that are available around the world. Among UK stores, the 2070 Super can be found for £ 475 (at least by pre-order). This price is pretty much in line with the RRP.

Thus, the situation is still far from mass panic, and we expect that Nvidia is ready to offer the necessary supply of its GPU Super, given that the point of new video cards is in a counterattack on the new AMD Navi video cards.

However, the picture looks a little shaky at the moment, and we’ve seen a significant price hike for the ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2060 Super. Yesterday this graphics card was sold for 360 pounds in Box stores, but now the seller is asking for a whopping 540 pounds.

So, if rumors are to be believed, we may face high price spikes. In such a case, we would recommend pre-ordering now for the safety of your wallet, otherwise you should be prepared to sit and wait for prices to settle in the long run, which inevitably happens in these scenarios.
