Runtime agent High CPU usage

The runtime broker is a toll that always runs in the background on your machine, managing permissions for Store apps. It generally consumes a negligible amount of system resources. But sometimes, you can see that this Runtime Broker is consuming a lot of your CPU’s processing power. There can be many reasons behind this unusual behavior, so follow any of these easy solutions to quickly resolve the issue.

Solution 1 – End the Runtime Broker

You can end the Runtime Broker process in Task Manager.

1. At first, right-click on the Windows key and touch the «Task Manager“.

2. When Task Manager opens, click «Processes” tab.

3. Scroll down to find the «Run-time broker«Process and then click on»Final task“.

After finishing the Runtime Broker process, close the Task Manager. In general, this should prevent the Runtime Broker process from consuming more resources.

Solution 2: edit the registry

There is a simple registry trick that can solve this problem.

1. At first, press the Windows key With R wrench.

2. Then write «regedit«In the Run window and click»OK“.

Disclaimer – You are going to modify a particular registry key on your computer. These changes can cause further problems, even irreversibly crash the system. Therefore, pay close attention to these instructions.

After opening Registry Editor, click «Proceedings“. Then click on «To export”To make a new backup on your computer.

3. After backing up the registry, go to this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTimeBrokerSvc

4. On the right hand side, you will see the «Start” value.

5. Solo, double click in the value to edit it.

6. Next, set the value to «4“.

7. Finally, touch «OK”To save the changes.

Close Registry Editor and restart your computer. After restarting, Runtime Broker will not consume a large amount of CPU resources.

Solution 3: disallow background processing of apps

Although there is no single switch to toggle the background app processes, you can disable the unwanted ones individually.

1. First, open the Settings.

2. Then tap on the «Applications”From the list on the left side.

3. After that, on the right side, tap «Apps and Features“.

8. Going back to the list of applications, disable background use of applications that you do not want to run in the background (such as Google Chrome).

This will save a lot of resources from power-consuming background processes. Runtime Blocker should behave normally and will consume no more than 2-3% of CPU power.

Solution 5: do not allow downloading of updates from other computers

Windows allows your systems to download current updates from the local computer. But, in this process, your PC also sends some of the previously downloaded update packages. This can cause Runtime Broker to behave erratically.

A virus / malware called Runtime Broker can consume a lot of CPU power.

1. At first, right-click on the Windows icon and tap «Task Manager«

2. Now, look again for the «Runtime blocker”Process that consumes a large amount of CPU resources.

3. Then right click on the process and tap «Open file location“.
