Russia and Morocco will sign an agreement on peaceful atom

MOSCOW, 12 Oct — PRIME. Russia will sign an intergovernmental agreement with Morocco on cooperation in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, the draft of this document involves, among other things, the construction of a nuclear power plant on Moroccan territory, the corresponding order of the Russian government was published on Wednesday on the official portal of legal information.

The order approved the draft intergovernmental agreement submitted by Rosatom and coordinated with the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as other authorities and previously worked out with the Moroccan side. Rosatom was instructed, together with the Russian Foreign Ministry, to hold talks with Moroccan partners and, upon reaching an agreement, sign an agreement.

One of the areas of cooperation between Russia and Morocco on peaceful atom in the draft agreement is called “the design and construction of power and research nuclear reactors, as well as water desalination plants and elementary particle accelerators.”

It is also planned to explore and develop uranium deposits in Morocco, supply nuclear fuel for power and research reactors, manage spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, jointly develop reactor technologies, conduct fundamental and applied research in the field of peaceful atom, use nuclear and radiation technologies in medical , industrial and other peaceful purposes, training. In general, we are talking about the creation and improvement of the infrastructure of nuclear energy in Morocco.

In October 2017, the Moroccan Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Energy signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of peaceful atom.
