Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 Toxic 6 GB in picture

At this year’s edition of the IT fair Cebit, SweClockers discovered a new graphics card. A modest stand housed nothing less than a Radeon HD 7970 with 6 GB of video memory, more specifically a model from Sapphire’s lavish Toxic series.

Now Russian OCLab publishes detailed images on the new graphics card and quite rightly it is about a model beyond the ordinary. Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 is a special with 24 memory capsules, twelve on each side of the circuit board.

The manufacturer also takes the opportunity to upgrade the voltage part to eight phases. Each phase is connected to an LED that marks the load. These can be seen through a small window on the radiator shell.

To further appeal to overclockers, there are two 8-pin PCI Express connectors for the power supply. Sapphire also assists with a turbo mode that is activated with a button on the circuit board and should enable overclockers to reach higher clock frequencies.

The circuit board is covered by a tailor-made cooler with four heat conduction tubes and double 92 mm fans. A solid sheet metal can be seen on the back. All memory capsules also have individual flanges to help lower temperatures.

Last but not least, the clock frequencies 1,150 MHz GPU and 6 GHz GDDR5 memory are noted, which can be compared with the reference model’s 925 MHz and 5.5 GHz respectively. OCLab managed to overclock the graphics card to 1,300 MHz GPU and 7,600 MHz memory with the included cooler. The result is 12,463 points in 3DMark 11 “Performance”.

However, the price and launch date are still unknown.
