Sony to build a factory in Japan to increase production

It seems that in the end the company will take the step and Sony will build a factory in Japan to increase the production of chips.

As we already announced at the beginning of October, Sony would have been negotiating with the giant TSMC to build a new factory in Japan that would solve the shortage of PlayStation 5 among other things.

Sony held negotiations with TMSC to set up said factory, and with the government ready to pay part of the investment of some 500,000 million yen (7.15 billion dollars). Although we do not have many illusions in the short term, since setting up a factory takes a long time and between construction and mass manufacturing of chips, 3 years can perfectly pass.

The interesting thing is that thanks to this new factory, Sony and TMSC will help to solve a little of the current shortage in sectors such as automotive and consumer electronics industries. They are also expected to produce an average of 45,000 12-inch semiconductor wafers per month under 20-28 nanometer technology.

Another detail that is very important to us, apart from manufacturing, is that thanks to this new factory, it is expected that they will create 1,500 new jobs.
