South Korea’s first spy satellite will go into orbit in just one year

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has shown the world that the time of relative peace and economic development is over and that the military sector must now be taken care of. This applies not only to central Europe, but also to countries in the Far East, such as South Korea. Today we learned when this unique, South Korea’s first spy satellite will take to the skies.

Thanks to SpaceX, the South Korean spy satellite will be launched into orbit in just one year

In the face of a tense global situation, South Korea will launch its first-ever all-native spy satellite aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. It will take place by the end of 2023 and, in addition, it will start intensified activities in this sector, as the country is to deploy another 4 satellites of this type by 2025. These will allow the state to better observe the world and thus become somewhat independent of the United States with which it directly cooperates.

As part of this strictly defensive Seoul project, the plan includes the placing in orbit of a total of four satellites in a synthetic aperture version. Each of them will use electro-optical infrared detectors and the more traditional radio waves. Once a constellation of such satellites is operational, South Korea’s overall defense system – along with its ability to track and monitor the deployment and movements of North Korean troops – will be strengthened.
