Hi all !

After testing the entry level be quiet! Pure Power L8 500 I am going to present you a high-end power supply, the Seasonic P-660!
In the world of power supplies when looking for stability, silence and high performance the first brand that comes to mind is Seasonic! Founded in 1975, the company did everything to establish itself and we can say that the bet is rather successful, because in addition to the power supplies of the brand itself, it also supplies other brands such as Antec, Corsair XFX etc…
Sporting the highest-end certification currently for consumer power, I named the 80Plus Platinum (more information here.) The P-660 should have something to do with it!

The box is sober and gives us the basic information on the power supply, such as the 80Plus Platinum certification, the hybrid power supply function (I will come back to this later) etc.

The power supply is surrounded by foam so as not to have any worries during transport, the cables are in a very practical pocket which will allow not to lose the excess once the configuration is mounted.

The velor style pouch is responsible for preventing scratches on the power supply, a little touch of luxury even if it wasn’t really necessary!

Here is the list of modular cables available:

Seasonic P-660
24 pin 60 cm
4 + 4 pin (Processor) 65 cm
8 pin (Processor) 65 cm
5.25″ + 5.25″ 30 + 12 cm
5.25″ + 5.25″ + 5.25″ 40 + 12 + 12 cm
Sata + Sata 30 + 12 cm
Sata + Sata + Sata + Sata 40 + 12 + 12 + 12 cm
Sata + Sata + Sata + Sata 40 + 12 + 12 + 12 cm
6 + 2 pin (Pcie) 60 cm
6 + 2 pin (Pcie) 60 cm
6 + 2 pin (Pcie) 60 cm
6 + 2 pin (Pcie) 60 cm
Adaptateur 5.25″ -> FDD 10 cm

As we can see the cables are a very good length and there will be no problems in very large towers (no need for an extension for the 8 pin processor!).
The number of connectors is more than sufficient for very large configurations, even with a SLI / Crossfire.

Here is the beast! As usual at Seasonic, the food is all dressed in matt black and remains very sober, but classy!
Let’s take a closer look at the connectors:

We are indeed in the presence of a completely modular power supply, so it will be very easy to install and remove this power supply!

This small switch is used to modify the operation of the power supply cooling, in the “Hybrid” position the fan will only start when the internal temperature reaches a certain threshold (the power supply will remain passive most of the time) while the “Normal” mode Will have the effect of having the fan permanently on.

Seasonic P-660

Modular Yes
Protections OCP, OVP, UVP, SCP, OPP, OTP
Number of 12v rails 1
Dimensions 160 x 86 x 150 mm
Guarantee 7 years

This Seasonic P-660 offers dream features, a fully modular 80Plus Platinum certification and a 7-year warranty. This diet is made to last!

As we can see the 12v is capable of delivering 660 Watts so unlike some manufacturers / power supplies there is no question here of giving the power of the P-660 according to the combined total (806 Watts), this power supply would have very well could be sold as a 700 Watts to see 750 Watts, a good point (a little normal for a high-end power supply however).

The test platform

The Seasonic P-660 power supply has been tested on the configuration below:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 875K @ 3,2 Ghz
  • Motherboard: Asus P7P55D
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX 4 x 2 Go 1600Mhz
  • Hard disk: WD Raptor 150 Go
  • Graphic card: Sapphire Toxic 5850

The test protocol

The core i7 875K has been slightly overclocked to 3.2Ghz. The readings in charge were taken during an OCCT Power Supply test, the readings at rest were taken after 15mins on the desk.

The power supply has been tested against the Seasonic S12 600 (from 2006), Seasonic X650 and be quiet! L8 Pure Power 500.

The consumption

With an 80Plus Platinum certification, the Seasonic P-660 is the power supply that consumes the least when taking (load as well as at rest), with 9 Watts less than the Seasonic X-650 (80Plus Gold), 20 Watts less than the be quiet! L8 Pure Power 500 (80 Plus Bronze).

The tensions

The voltages of the Seasonic P-660 are irreproachable, the 3.3v and the 5v do not move a bit under load and the 12v goes from 12.06 to 12.03 a drop of only 0.25% which is simply excellent. Seasonic has really put all his know-how into this food!

Noise pollution

Attention : Part to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately not having access to the appropriate equipment and using an android application to take the readings the measurements below are only indicative! The readings were taken 15cm from the feed.

The Seasonic P-660 fan did not come on when the ventilation was in the “Hybrid” position and therefore is completely silent in this mode, once the “Normal” mode is engaged the fan remains at the same. speed whether at rest or under load and remained very quiet.
It should be noted that there is a slight electronic noise coming from the audible power supply when the ear is glued to it but is no longer heard from a distance of 15 cm.

Here we are at the end of this test, if you have read it (I hope!) You will have understood that this Seasonic P-660 has completely won me over!
The “hybrid” mode makes this power supply quite simply passive (therefore inaudible, even if a very slight electronic noise remains) if it is used in a gaming PC even when sufficiently charged, the voltages are of exemplary stability and the Platinum certification ensures a top notch performance.
The only small negative point is the price (149 € recommended price) but with a 7 year guarantee you will have time to pay off your investment! It will be a power supply of choice for a high-end configuration.

The +

  • Silence especially in “Hybrid” mode
  • Efficiency thanks to 80Plus Platinum certification
  • Extremely stable voltages
  • 7 year warranty
  • SAV Seasonic

The –

  • Price?
  • Very slight electronic noise (to quibble)

Where to find the Seasonic P-660?
