Good morning all!

Today is a big day, it marks the beginning of the tests of SilentiumPC products at Conseil Config! You may not be familiar with SilentiumPC, and that’s okay! Polish company founded in 2007 in Warsaw specializing in silent products (as its name suggests!) While having a quality / performance / price ratio, the products will soon arrive in France, and if the bet is successful they are likely to do very wrong! SilentiumPC offers boxes, power supplies, fans and coolers, it is one of the latter that I will test for you today, the Fera 2 HE1224 v2. Under this name hides a tower-format cooler equipped with a 12cm fan, classic until now but it will be offered around 23 €, which may interest more than one, let’s see all this more near!

The box of the Fera 2 HE1224 v2 is very sober, all white with only the brand, a photo of the product and the mention CPU Cooler, no marketing here, it’s nice! At the back you can see QR codes that lead directly to the installation guides for AMD or Intel sockets as well as a listing of the main characteristics of the cooler, namely compatibility with the main AMD and Intel sockets, HE technology ( direct contact of the heat pipes with the processor), PWM fan (max 1400 RPM) as well as attachments for an additional fan (not supplied).

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_cote2SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_cote1

On the sides we find the technical details of the cooler, size, weight, characteristics of the fan as well as the duration of the warranty and the compatible sockets.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_ouvert1

When opening the box, you find the installation manual placed on the box containing the accessories.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_ouvert2

Under the accessories box is the cooler in a transparent plastic mold.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_ouvert3SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_boite_ouvert4

In this mold is a small cardboard box containing the fan, under it we finally see the beast! The packaging has survived the transport from Poland, so we can say that it is sufficient!

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_bundle

The bundle consists of:

  • 1 Fera 2 HE1224 v2 radiator
  • 1 fan 12cm (max 1400RPM)
  • 4 clips for 2 fans
  • 1 AMD and Intel compatible backplate
  • AMD and Intel mounting bars
  • 1 tube of thermal paste
  • The necessary screws
  • 1 installation manual

As we can see the bundle is quite sufficient to install the cooler, a tube of thermal paste as well as 2 clips for an additional fan, we really can’t ask for much more at this price!

Here is the radiator! Composed of 47 aluminum fins (including 1 black at the top) and 4 copper caludocs, the build quality is very good for a product of this price and it does not have to be ashamed of the competition.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_radiator_above

SilentiumPC has not abandoned the look of its cooler by adding a black aluminum plate at the top with its logo, fans of cases with a window will be delighted.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_radiateur_dessous

Contact with the processor will be made directly with the heat pipes, the build quality is correct here, no frills!

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_ventilateur_dientSilentiumPC_he1224_v2_ventilateur_behind

The black fan has the SilentiumPC logo in its center, the build quality is once again very correct, we can see on the back that the wires are all black, proof once again that the brand is committed to its design, but this is not finished because the cable is also sheathed!

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_ventilateur_cable_tresse

The sheathing is of very good quality, there will be no threads of all the unsightly colors that spoil the view!

Type of bearingHydraulic
Rotation speed500 -> 1400 RPM +/- 10%
Consumption1.44 Watt
Sound level in dB8,9 ~ 21 dB/A
Flux d’air55 CFM
MTBF50,000 hours

The characteristics of the SilentiumPC Fera 2 HE1224 are rather classic, the dimensions are 15.2cm high for 12.5cm wide and 7.5cm deep with the fan for a total of 555 grams, the beast is therefore rather light! As I said above, it will also be possible to install a second 12cm fan, the clips are provided.
The fan is a 12cm model rotating at a maximum speed of 1400 RPM for a minimum of 500 RPM, the consumption is 1.44 Watt for a sound level ranging from 8.9 to 21 dB, the whole should therefore be rather quiet but it will have to be checked. during the tests!
Offered at a price of around 23 € it should hurt the competition a lot if the performance is there, its availability in France should be around the middle of 2015.

Videos are available on the manufacturer’s website to help buyers, that doesn’t mean that I won’t detail the steps, but here they are anyway!

To start we will tackle the back plate of the motherboard, it is worth taking the 4 square head screws as well as the plastic clips below:

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_montage1

then you have to put the screws in the holes corresponding to the socket of the motherboard, 1156 in my case so the middle hole and slide the plastic clips over the metal tab, like this:

Once the 4 screws are installed in the 4 corners, just place everything under the motherboard and we end up with this:

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_montage5

Then you have to put the 4 black plastic spacers on the screws, like this:

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_montage6

We put the 2 fixing bars on the spacers, 2 orientations are possible either with the fan which blows upwards of the case or towards the rear.

Once installed, all you have to do is screw them:

To finish, just put a grain of thermal paste rice, put the radiator (without the fan) on the processor and screw it, nothing could be simpler! All you have to do is fix the supplied fan and connect it to the PWM connector of the processor!

Memory / PCIe compatibility

Due to its small size the SilentiumPC Fera 2 HE1224 v2 should not pose incompatibility problems with the other components, let’s see this:

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_clearance_pcie

The first PCIe port can be used by a graphics card without problems, very well. Let’s move on to the subject of all the questions when buying a cooler, memory!

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_clearance_ram1
SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_clearance_ram2

The space between the cooler and the first memory slot is very large, so it will be possible to install all the memory modules on the market without any problem, that’s it!

The test platform

The SilentiumPC Fera 2 HE1224 v2 has been tested on the configuration below:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 875K @ 3,2 Ghz
  • Motherboard: Asus P7P55D
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX 4 x 2 Go 1600Mhz
  • Hard disk: WD Raptor 150 Go
  • Graphic card: Sapphire Toxic 5850
  • Food: Seasonic X650

The test protocol

The core i7 875K has been slightly overclocked to 3.2Ghz. The temperatures under load are an average of all the cores for 3 tests of 30 minutes on OCCT, the temperatures at rest were taken after 15mins on the desk (still an average of the 4 cores).

The cooler has been tested against:

  • be quiet! Pure Rock (tested here)
  • be quiet! Dark Rock 3 (tested here)
  • be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 (tested here)
  • Noctua NH-U12S (tested here)
  • Noctua NH-U14S (tested here)
  • Noctua NH-D15 (tested here)
  • Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH (tested here)
  • Thermalright HR01 + 1 Nexus real silent 120 fan (tested here)

The temperatures

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_resultats_temperatures

How does the little Fera 2 behave during the tests? Well I must admit that for 23 € he really does it with all the honors! With 64 ° in 5V, 56 ° in 12V and 58 ° managed by the motherboard in PWM it is certain that it can cool a processor without problems! Of course, we are far from the big behemoths but the price has nothing to do with it, they are 2, 3 or even 4 times more expensive. Its direct competitor be quiet! Pure Rock is only a few degrees more efficient for a slightly higher price (~ 32 €), the SilentiumPC Fera 2 really does not have to be ashamed!

Noise pollution

Attention : Part to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately not having access to the appropriate equipment and using an android application to take the readings the measurements below are only indicative! The readings were taken 15cm from the cooler.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_results_ nuisances_sonores

Nerf of war and main objective of SilentiumPC the noise pollution is really very good, in 5V it is inaudible except really a very slight engine noise when you stick your ear to the fan. In 12V it is heard but there is no parasitic noise, only the noise of the air flow is present which is not very annoying, especially when the cooler is in a box. The best understood remains as usual the PWM mode which, in my test configuration only reached 39dB at full load, there is no need to say SilentiumPC worked really very well at this level, especially once again by seeing the price of the product.

SilentiumPC_he1224_v2_random

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the SilentiumPC Fera 2 HE1224 v2?
The build quality for a product of this type is very good, SilentiumPC has also done everything to have a nice look with the black top and the sheathed fan cable which generally goes by the wayside on the entry products. range. The performance is really very satisfactory and it will be able to cool a processor as long as the overclocking is not pushed. In terms of noise pollution, it’s really good with a fan that behaves admirably.

Offered at around € 23 (when it will be available in mid-2015 in France) the Fera 2 HE1224 v2 will undoubtedly be THE entry-level cooler to have, it will really be an excellent candidate for a pc configuration due to its performance ratio. / silence / unbeatable price.

The +

  • Price!
  • Quiet
  • Look for an entry-level product
  • Completely acceptable performance

The –

  • Not yet available in France!

A big thank you to Marcin from SilentiumPC who allowed me to do this test.
