When writing about bitcoin it is often about the price. Logical too, because the value of bitcoin appeals to the imagination of many. But bitcoin also scores well this year in other areas. And that is still an understatement, because 2019 is the year that several records were broken. Since this is the end of the year, it is high time for a list!
More transactions than ever in a month
The great thing about the bitcoin blockchain is that all data is transparent. This makes it easy to look up how many transactions there have been.
According to data analysis company there have never been so many transactions in a month than in May 2019. In that month there were no fewer than 12 million bitcoin transactions. That is even more than December 2017, when there were 11 million transactions.
It is not surprising that this record was broken in May. The price increase for bitcoin was probably an important factor. In one month, the rate rose by almost 75 percent! That may well have led to more interest, which has led to an increase in the number of transactions.
More value than ever moved on bitcoin blockchain
Not only the number of transactions, but also the value of the transactions can be measured. And there has never been so much value shifted on the bitcoin blockchain as this year. On July 29, even $ 4 billion was shifted in one day!
Computer power on the network keeps on growing
Finally, the total computing power on the bitcoin network reached a record this year. The bitcoin network has never been as secure as in 2019.
And that is striking, because even when the price of bitcoin falls, the computing power continues to rise. How different is that with litecoin, for example. The rate is falling and with it the computing power on the litecoin network:
2019 was therefore also a particularly good year for bitcoin in other areas than the rate. Off to 2020!
