The AMD Radeon RX 5000 series “Navi” will receive customized partner cards in August

There was a long line of big news at this year’s edition of Computex. In addition to news on the processor side, AMD talked about the next generation of graphics cards with the new game-oriented architecture Radeon DNA (RDNA), which will be used in the Radeon RX 5000 series.

On stage, CEO Lisa Su announced that the launch of the Radeon RX 5000 series, which until Computex was only known under the family name Navi, will take place sometime in July. According to SweClockers, AMD will launch two variants of Navi in ​​the Radeon RX 5000 series, both based on the same graphics circuit, one of which will be a scaled-down variant at a lower price.

Initially, only graphics cards with AMD’s reference design will be launched, which the company’s many partner manufacturers will resell under their own flag. This usually only means minor cosmetic changes such as stickers, but that these are otherwise identical graphics cards regardless of the name of the company.

According to SweClocker’s information, the reference design should use a radial fan, which dumps the hot air outside the chassis. However, those who are waiting for tailor-made solutions with more expensive circuit boards and cooling solutions do not have to wait very long.

As recently as last week, AMD sent out its Design Kit for the new graphics cards for partner manufacturers, which are now in full swing developing circuit boards for the upcoming series. In the same vein, AMD will ask for the first partner cards to be ready and out on store shelves by August. This is to have graphics cards for sale for the start of school and in good time for the Christmas shopping.

When we ask about the time frame partner manufacturers have received, it is stated that it is short on time, but that it should not be a major problem to face. If the development is painless, the first models can be ready as early as the beginning of August, at the same time as the middle or end of August is considered “more realistic”.

In conclusion, it appears that AMD has not yet released any price information even to its partners. The only SweClockers get are qualified guesses, where a price point of 399 USD for the top model is considered reasonable as it will compete with Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 2070 which has a recommended price of 499 USD.

The launch of the Radeon RX 5000 series with the RDNA architecture will take place sometime in July, in other words shortly after the processors in the Ryzen 3000 series, which will be released on July 7.
