The AMD Radeon RX 6000 supports ray tracing via Microsoft DXR and Vulkan

The graphics cards in the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series have, on paper, exceeded most expectations, and the company is in the process of hitting the big PR drum before the launch later in November. Characteristic of the first round of RDNA 2-based graphics cards is, among other things, a large amount of GDDR6 memory, where all three advertised are equipped with 16 GB of graphics memory.

Around ray tracing however, almost nothing has been announced, up to now when Wccftech digs up information claiming that the graphics card series supports ray tracing through the developer interfaces (APIs) Microsoft DXR and Vulkan. Thus, Radeon RX 6000 consumers can still their concern, as big titles like Battlefield V, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Dirt 5 use Microsoft DXR, why ray tracing will also work on AMD cards in these at launch.

One of few ray tracingapplications that are not currently AMD compatible are Id Tech’s new game engine – despite the use of the technology via the Vulkan API, this is currently only supported by graphics cards from Nvidia.

What is not highlighted is the performance of ray tracing for AMD’s new graphics card series, but preliminary leaks show RTX 3070-like performance on the Radeon RX 6800. In addition, AMD is said to be working on a competitor to the Nvidia DLSS function, with the hope of being able to give the performance an extra boost, especially at ray tracing. Exactly when these features will be implemented will be announced before the series launches, mean AMD’s Frank Azor.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT will go on sale on November 18, with expected price tags of approximately SEK 6,400 and SEK 7,200, respectively.
