The AMD Radeon RX Vega comes with 4 and 8 GB of graphics memory

In the coming months, AMD is expected to launch a number of new graphics cards, including four new models in the Radeon RX 500 series. This is based on the older architecture Polaris and offers no major news. In addition to this, they also have the Radeon RX Vega, which will be a completely new architecture with a number of improvements.

So far very little is known about the new architecture, but during a technology conference in Beijing recently, AMD revealed that the new models are equipped with 4 and 8 GB of graphics memory. Radeon RX Vega uses a new type of memory controller called the High-Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC), which should be able to use the available memory and bandwidth more efficiently.

The increased efficiency is believed to be what enables AMD to choose the now unusual amount of graphics memory 4 GB and still get high performance. During the same conference, AMD also announced that the Radeon RX Vega will be launched for laptops where the HBM2 memory’s more compact design is expected to have a major advantage over the GDDR5.

Price and launch date for the Radeon RX Vega are not yet known, but previous information suggests a launch sometime in May.
