The Atlantis upgrade successfully implemented in the Ethereum Classic network

Ethereum Classic has successfully adopted a system-level software update known as Atlantis. It aims to increase interoperability with Ethereum, the blockchain that was born through a hard fork in 2016

10 proposals for improvement, increased compatibility with Ethereum

The Atlantis upgrade required all software users to update their clients to remain compliant with network rules. Initially planned to be implemented in the summer, Atlantis includes 10 Ethereum Improvement (EIP) proposals to improve network stability and performance.

These include the introduction of opcode, precompiled contracts, zk-SNARK and enhanced security.

The software changes were a result of the collaboration between ETC Laboratories, Chainsafe System and ETC Cooperatives, as well as other community members.

“We learned a lot about the beauty of decentralization and about the distributed community,”

said hard fork coordinator Afri Schoedon.

Earlier this week, about 60% of the nodes and over 75% of the ETC miners confirmed the upgrade. The main exchange platforms, Coinbase, Poloniex, Binance, Bittrex, Kraken, Shapeshift and OKEx confirmed with ETC Labs that they have updated their software to support the Atlantis upgrade.

Ethereum and Ethereum Classic have the same goals

ETC Lab CEO Terry Culver said Atlantis is signaling its willingness to work with Ethereum. Many of the Atlantean PPIs have been in Ethereum for years and should allow greater interoperability between platforms, especially for dapps.

“This hard fork clearly shows that we are committed to working together and collaborating with Ethereum. We want to find ways in which the two chains can support each other ”,

Culver said.

Ethereum is a hard fork of the Ethereum Classic network that took place in 2016, following the compromise of The DAO smart contract. At that time, the decision to cancel the illegal transactions led to a separation of the community in the supporters of ETH and ETC.
