The BdF launches a call for candidates for its MDBC

The Bank of France (BoF) just launched a call for applications for experiments of central bank digital currency (MDBC) in interbank regulations.

On its website, the BoF explains that its objective is "to identify concrete cases of integration" for a MDBC during "procedures for the exchange and settlement of tokenized financial assets".

The results of the experiments will be an important element of the contribution of the Bank of France to the more global thinking led byEurosystem on the possible establishment of a MDBC, ”She says.

The French central bank is accepting applications until May 15 and plans to hold interviews in June to select the most attractive candidates in July.

While the announcement of the BoF in favor of the "possible" creation of a MDBC is welcomed, experts and deputies call the institution not to be limited to simple experiments in the face of the threat of private currencies like Libra.

According to its governor, François Villeroy de Galhau, the central banks must be the only ones to issue digital currency.

The BdF is primarily interested in the issue of a so-called currency " wholesale ", for banks and other institutions. However, in a recent interview, the leader said that studying a digital currency in destination of the general public was "not excluded".
