– Maxon has reissued the popular, free and easy-to-use CPU benchmark Cinebench. Six years after Cinebench R15, Cinebench R20 follows with a new engine and new project file. BitcoinMinersHashrate has created its own benchmarks and calls the community again for testing.

This is new on the Cinebench R20
The new name already reveals it: Cinebench R20, like Cinebench R15, is based on the technology of the well-known rendering tool Cinema 4D, but now on the basis of Release 20 and not Release 15. This means that a revised rendering engine is used, among other things also supports the AVX instruction set. The minimum requirement, however, is the SSE3 instruction set.
Up to 256 threads are supported
In addition, Maxon wants to have significantly improved the scaling with many threads of the Cinebench R20 so that future processors can still be tested: Up to 256 are now supported. Furthermore, a significantly more complex ray tracing scene is used, which, according to the developer, requires eight times as much computing effort and four times as much memory as that known from the Cinebench R15. In addition, the photo-realistic image of a room gives you a much better impression of what such programs are used for.
Again there is a test run for single-thread and multi-thread performance, but the OpenGL test for graphics cards that was still available with Cinebench R15 was canceled – it was generally not used anyway.
For the time being only in the Microsoft Store
Unlike the Cinebench R15, the Cinebench R20 is at least not yet freely available for download. The benchmark can only be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. It is somewhat irritating that Maxon speaks of Windows 7 as a minimum requirement, but the store is only supported from Windows 8. It is conceivable that a stand-alone version will be made available at a later date. There is already a version for macOS that has to be downloaded from the Apple App Store.
BitcoinMinersHashrate has already created numerous own benchmarks with CPUs in Cinebench R20, Windows 10 was used. As with Metro Exodus, the community is also called to start a run itself and the results for the single thread in the forum – and post the multi-thread value – ideally with a screenshot. To do this, under Files the menu item Advanced benchmark are activated, then both test runs can be carried out Run all selected tests run in one go.
When submitting results, additional information such as the processor used and whether it was tested in the factory state or overclocked are also important. If the latter was the case, the clock should also be mentioned. Information on the memory clock used together with the set timings are also helpful.
