The European Commission has no information about the agreement between Russia and Hungary on gas
BRUSSELS, 1st — PRIME. The European Commission (EC) does not have detailed information about the new agreement on the supply of gas from Russia to Hungary from September 1, EC representative Tim McPhee said at a briefing.
The day before, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that an agreement was signed with Gazprom, according to which an additional 5.8 million cubic meters of gas will be supplied to the country daily through the Turkish Stream and Serbia from September 1.
“The European Commission is not a party to this contract, does not have detailed information about this contract, so we cannot say what price will be paid for gas,” McPhee answered a question regarding the cost of gas under the new agreement.
“I recall that the member countries have agreed to … reduce our overall dependence on Russian energy, we have adopted energy saving regulations to reduce demand (for gas – ed.) by 15% this winter. We are in regular contact with all member countries on implementation of these plans,” he added.
