MOSCOW, 7 Sep — PRIME. The European Union has cut Russian gas supplies via pipeline from 41% in 2021 to 9%, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with European publications published in the Stampa newspaper.
“The Russian gas that we buy through the pipeline has decreased to 9% of total imports … last year it was 41%,” the EC President said.
Earlier, she announced the need to introduce a price ceiling for Russian gas. According to her, the plan to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis, which will be presented in a few days, will include limiting the price of gas supplies through the pipeline.
Speaking of plans to impose an additional tax on the profits of energy companies, von der Leyen said that they are supposed to be “directed to the most vulnerable families and companies.” At the end of August, she also reported that the EC is working on operational and longer-term measures to improve the situation against the backdrop of rising electricity prices in the EU, which mainly depend on the cost of blue fuel.
