The expert called the sabotage at Nord Stream 2 expected

MOSCOW, 28 Sep — PRIME. Sabotage on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was to be expected, given how furiously the United States insisted on canceling this project, Ilya Kalenkov, general director of PJSC Evropeyskaya Elektrotekhnika, told RIA Novosti.

Germany discussed the Nord Stream incident with partners

“The sabotage at Nord Stream 2 was to be expected, given the fury with which the United States insisted that this project should not take place. Moreover, the fact that the branches of the stream were filled with technical gas, and it could be launched at any moment, posed a certain threat to US policy to strengthen its position in Europe, for example, if Chancellor Scholz gave up and launched Nord Stream 2, the expert said.

Earlier on Monday, incidents occurred simultaneously on two Russian gas export pipelines to Europe. According to information from the authorities of Denmark and Sweden, two gas leaks were discovered at Nord Stream and one at Nord Stream 2 near the island of Bornholm. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Danish authorities notified Russia immediately upon request for information about the emergency from the Russian side that explosions had been recorded at the site of the leak. The operator of Nord Stream, Nord Stream AG, reported that the incidents on gas pipelines are unprecedented, and it is impossible to estimate the timing of repairs.

Former Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski rejoiced at the damage to gas pipelines, writing on social media on Tuesday: “A trifle, but a pleasure. Thank you, USA.” under the picture from the scene of the accident, without specifying what is meant. Later, he posted on his profile a quote from US President Joe Biden, who threatened to destroy the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

The German publication Spiegel, citing its sources, reported that the United States warned the German government several weeks ago about a possible attack on Nord Stream. At the same time, the White House said on the same day that they would not “speculate” about the reasons for the leaks and were ready to assist European countries.
