The first ship from the United States delivered gas for the Czech Republic to the Dutch LNG terminal
PRAGUE, 19 you — PRIME. The first ship from the United States delivered on Monday to a floating terminal near the Dutch city of Eemshaven, a third of which was leased for 10 years for the Czech Republic by the energy company ČEZ, 100 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), ČEZ spokesman Roman Gazdik told reporters.
“The tanker delivered the first 100 million cubic meters of gas to the Czech Republic exactly on schedule, by the end of the year we expect 7 more ships. In total, the Czech Republic leases a third of this LNG terminal, which is 3 billion cubic meters of gas. These reserves will cover a third of the annual gas consumption in our republic. In general, their delivery will require 30 tanker trips, while gas will be bought at spot prices,” Gazdik said.
Annual gas consumption in the Czech Republic is about 9 billion cubic meters. As the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic, Josef Sikela, said earlier, agreements have already been reached on transporting gas from Emshaven to the Czech Republic via European pipelines.
In addition to the Czech Republic, the new terminal in the Netherlands will be used by Shell and Engie.
According to Sikela, the lease of one-third of the LNG terminal will cost “several tens of millions of euros per year”, the minister declined to give a more precise figure.
