The German government has canceled the gas surcharge before it comes into force

BERLIN, Sep 30 – PRIME. The German Cabinet has canceled the so-called gas tax for consumers, its collection was to begin in October, the German Ministry of Economy said in a statement.

Media: Germany and France want to promote the idea of joint purchases of gas from the EU
The gas surcharge, which has been criticized, is “retroactive and has been completely eliminated,” the ministry said in a statement. The ministry said Thursday’s measures to combat the energy crisis would “effectively and comprehensively” replace the gas levy.
To support gas importers, the German authorities planned from October 1 of this year until 2024 to collect the so-called gas levy, the amount of which was to be 2.4 euro cents per kilowatt-hour. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Thursday that the German government would impose a curb on gas prices, waive the gas levy and allocate support of up to 200 billion euros.
