VIENNA, Sep 5 – PRIME. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi will publish a report on nuclear safety in Ukraine and the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant on Tuesday after an agency mission visited the plant, the organization said.
“Director General Grossi will release a report on nuclear safety, security and security assurances in Ukraine on Tuesday, including conclusions from the ZNPP mission, and will brief the UN Security Council on the mission to the plant later that day,” the statement said. IAEA website.
Last week, an IAEA mission led by Grossi arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP. The head of the delegation of “Rosatom” and employees of the Zaporizhzhya NPP led the delegation of the IAEA through its territory and showed the sections of the station that were damaged during the shelling of Ukrainian troops. As Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, told RIA Novosti, two IAEA employees will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP on a permanent basis.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
