The Laowa Probe lens heralds a revolution in macro photography

Again, we are dealing with a project on Kickstarter that has achieved tremendous success. Producer Laowa’s latest lens scooped $ 360,607 in a two-day campaign, where developers were asking for only $ 10,000. With 28 days left until the end of the action, I won’t be surprised when the project gets the magic million dollars raised. It only proves that the Laowa 24 mm f / 14 Probe is really a device that photographers want.

Its very name (probe) indicates that we are dealing here not with a traditional lens, but with a “probe-lens”. The Laowa 24mm f / 14 Probe (I love these names) consists of the aforementioned 40 centimeters long probe and attachment to one of the selected SLRs. Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony FE, Cinema series and even APS-C cameras are supported. Laowa distinguishes its product from the competition with a certain uniqueness.

This strange lens allows for lower background isolation from the photographed object, despite the fact that it is quite zoomed in. Here, the producer uses an example, where the photographer can approach the lens 2 cm from the subject of the frame, and the wide-angle lens (84.1 degrees) known as the “Bug Eye” will not allow the photography to show only a worm or anything so small. The Laowa 24mm f / 14 Probe will of course also allow for other shots. All thanks to numerous modes – 2: 1, 1: 1, 1: 1.5, 1: 2, 1: 4 and Infinity.

I’m not a photographer, to easily define the difference between them, so you can find the explanation above – in a photo of a kiwi. However, if you are the camera masters and the macro world has always fascinated you, then you can now go to the official campaign and reserve your copy there. However, the Laowa Probe is not one of the cheapest lenses (for which you have to pay a lot). Before the campaign ends, you’ll get it for $ 1299, and after that – for $ 1499 on traditional sale. The first deliveries will start after August 31.
