The Ministry of Energy expects an increase in electricity exports to China in 2022

VLADIVOSTOK, 7 Sep — PRIME. The Ministry of Energy predicts an increase in electricity supplies from Russia to China and Mongolia by 19-20%, Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said at the WEF.

“Electricity exports to the east (China, Mongolia) will grow by 19-20% by the end of the year, supplies are increasing. We expect about 5.2 billion kWh for the year,” he told reporters.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that Shulginov and the Minister of Energy of Mongolia discussed joint work on the modernization of CHPP-3 in Ulaanbaatar. In addition, last year the parties took measures to increase the capacity of the export transmission line to Mongolia by 40%.

Speaking about the total Russian electricity exports, the minister noted that in general, the volumes will decrease throughout the year, since supplies to the Baltic countries, Finland, and Ukraine have decreased.

At the same time, in June, speaking at the SPIEF, Shulginov stated that the export of electricity from the Russian Federation in 2022 would decrease to 18 billion kWh. In 2021, the figure, according to Inter RAO, amounted to 21.77 billion kWh.
