MOSCOW, 7 Sep — PRIME. The European Commission will discuss with the EU on Friday a set of new measures to normalize the situation in the electricity market, including a cap on Russian gas prices and a mandatory reduction in electricity consumption during peak hours. This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“We will propose a price limit for Russian gas,” she said at a press conference.
Von der Leyen added that the European Commission will also “propose a binding target to reduce the use of electricity during peak hours.”
The head of the EC stressed that the body has prepared three more measures.
Von der Leyen indicated that the European Commission is studying the possibility of imposing a price cap on reduced natural gas in the region.
“These are the five measures that we will discuss with the member countries at the energy council on Friday,” she said.
On Friday, September 9, an extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers will be held.
