MOSCOW, September 5 – PRIME. The solemn naming ceremony of two Aframax-type oil tankers built for the Rosnefteflot and Sovcomflot companies took place at the Zvezda shipbuilding complex as part of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), a RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the scene.

The Sovcomflot ship was named Okeansky Prospekt in honor of the central street of the capital of the Primorsky Territory and the Far Eastern Federal District – Vladivostok. The tanker “Rosnefteflot” was named “Akademik Gubkin” in honor of the outstanding Russian scientist.
“Standing next to these two huge beauties is breathtaking. I want to say that we are proud of the results of the work of the Zvezda team, which completed the construction of two Aframax tankers, which today are called names that receive a start in life. And I am absolutely sure of that all the tasks that the Zvezda shipyard is facing will also be fulfilled,” said Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
“Today, I’m not afraid to say, we are witnessing a historic event. We are witnessing the localization of the production of modern large-tonnage tankers of a high environmental class, the work continues and deepens,” said Igor Tonkovidov, head of Sovcomflot.
The tankers have yet to go through the mooring stage of testing. It includes work on checking and adjusting the systems and equipment of the vessel for further preparation for sea trials and transfer to the customer, Rosneft specified. According to Zvezda CEO Sergei Tseluiko, the tankers should be handed over to the customer at the end of the year.
The press service of Rosneft said that oil tankers of the Aframax type are designed to transport crude oil and oil products in an unlimited navigation area. The length of the tanker is 250 meters, width is 44 meters, deadweight is 114 thousand tons, speed is 14.6 knots, ice class is ICE-1A. Tankers of this type are being built in Russia for the first time. The main and auxiliary power plants can operate on both conventional and environmentally friendly fuel – liquefied natural gas, which complies with the new rules to limit emissions of sulfur oxides and greenhouse gases.
The Zvezda shipbuilding complex is being created on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation by a consortium of investors headed by Rosneft Oil Company. The company provided a pilot load for the shipbuilding complex – contracts were signed for the construction of 28 ships. The first ones have already been handed over to customers. Two Aframax-class oil tankers, Vladimir Monomakh and Vladimir Vinogradov, currently operate regular crude oil voyages. In total, Zvezda’s portfolio of orders includes a series of 12 tankers of this class, 10 of them are being built by order of Rosnefteflot.
