The number of databases hit the network has doubled in the summer

MOSCOW, 7 Sep — PRIME. The number of open databases of Russian companies posted to the network doubled over the summer compared to spring, the anti-record was set in August, according to a study by Group-IB, a cybersecurity company.

The expert urged to abandon the “Anglo-Saxon view” on cybersecurity

“Group-IB… recorded in the summer of 2022 a two-fold increase in the number of databases of Russian companies made publicly available compared to the spring of this year. According to Group-IB Threat Intelligence, 140 databases got into the network over the three summer months, and the anti-record was set in August – 100 leaks. The total number of lines of all summer plums, according to Group-IB experts, amounted to 304 million, “the experts found out.

It is specified that the anti-record was set in August due to a leak that included the databases of 75 Russian companies. For comparison, analysts cite statistics for the spring of this year, during which 73 bases were published. The study showed that the largest leaks were recorded in companies operating in the areas of delivery, online video and medical services.

According to Oleg Derov, Head of Group-IB’s Threat Intelligence cybercrime department, the intensity with which cybercriminals publish stolen databases of Russian companies remains high, even compared to the “record” spring of this year. He also noted that attackers are starting to move from “old-fashioned forums” to Telegram.

“In addition to small websites, shops and restaurants, data from large Russian companies in various sectors of the economy continues to leak. Most often, attackers immediately posted the databases to the public, which increased the risk of successfully using the information received for further cyber attacks and fraudulent schemes,” Derov explained.
