The Nvidia CMP series includes only one Ampere-based GPU

Nvidia’s series of calculation cards for cryptocurrency mining, CMP, arouses hot feelings in the comment threads. As recently as last Friday, we reported that the architecture behind the RTX 2000 series, “Turing”, has resurrected from the dead and taken place in the CMP series board cards 30HX and 40HX. There and then, however, there were still question marks around the top models 50HX and 90HX.

Now Videocardz is on hand to straighten out the said question marks – the message is that only the top model 90HX is based on an “Ampere” circuit, more specifically GA102-100. This circuit is based on 8 nanometers at Samsung and is normally housed by the Geforce RTX 3080 and 3090 cards – but the exact configuration is unknown. The 50HX model, on the other hand, will be another “Turing” variant with the circuit TU102-100, a circuit known from the RTX 2080 Ti.

They don’t meet the specifications required of a GeForce GPU and, thus, don’t impact the availability of GeForce GPUs to gamers.

With Nvidia’s statement that CMP series cards do not qualify for the Geforce series, we can also conclude that the top card 90HX does not look like a full-featured RTX 3080. Just RTX 3080 delivers hashrates about 98 MH / s, while CMP 90HX is specified for 86 MH / s. GA102 processors with fewer functioning CUDA cores than the RTX 3080 and its 8,704 pieces will probably be used for the upcoming crypto card.

Finally, Videocardz will place the launch window for the CMP 90HX in May – in line with Nvidia’s promised launch during the second quarter of the year.
