The Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 with 4 GB of video memory arrives in the spring

When Nvidia yesterday launched the mid-range Geforce GTX 960, it was received with mixed feelings. Characteristic of the card is excellent performance in relation to the power output, but limited memory and bandwidth means that it quickly loses ground in resolutions above 1080p.

Nvidia plans to partially remedy this with partner manufacturers by releasing the graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5 – double up from the regular edition. Potentially, this could put the graphics card in a better position in terms of performance compared to AMD’s Radeon R9 28x series, but skeptics believe that the difference from 2 GB will be marginal due to the narrow 128-bit memory bus.

First out with the Geforce GTX 960 with 4 GB of video memory is the Inno3D, which is preparing two variants for the month of March. The first is a standard model aimed at media computers and the second a larger solution with the company’s Airboss X3 cooler, where the company, in keeping with the habit, will probably also invest in really large factory overclocking.

It is not clear what the price tags for models with double the amount of video memory land on, but it is probable that it is SEK 300-400 above the regular price.
