The RTX 3090 Ti will have 450W TDP and a new power connector

Nvidia is gearing up for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti launch in January, and has apparently already handed over its specs to assemblers to design their custom models, leading to several leaks. As reported by Videocardz, sources from an assembler revealed several specifications about this GPU, and confirmed that it will be called RTX 3090 Ti instead of RTX 3090 Super, to continue with the nomenclature used in the recent RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti.

The most striking point of these leaks is the power supply, with two novelties: The first is that the custom models will have default power limits of up to 450W, so this graph will have a very high consumption to get the most out of Ampere.

The other novelty is that a new power connector will be used, which apparently would be a new ATX standard for all graphics cards that use PCI-E 5.0. This connector would have a total of 16 pins and would be under embargo until the official launch of PCI-E 5.0 in November with the arrival of the Alder Lake platform that will have motherboards and CPUs compatible with this interface.

Another aspect that Videocardz talked about are the memories: These will have a memory speed of 21Gbps, compared to the 19.5Gbps of the standard RTX 3090, and in addition 2Gb modules will be used instead of 1Gb modules, requiring half the modules than in the standard RTX 3090 and therefore eliminating the need to place chips in the back, improving the cooling of the memories.

Finally, sources confirmed that Nvidia is planning to launch this RTX 3090 Ti in January, fueling rumors that it will arrive alongside the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 2060 12GB.

It will be interesting to see if the various builders end up implementing this new power connector or continue to use the same current PCI-E connectors, as they did when Nvidia wanted to impose the new 12-pin connector that it uses in the RTX 3000 Founders Edition and was not used in virtually no custom models. To do this, we will have to wait for its launch in January.
