The United States saw the risks of a winter surge in oil prices due to sanctions against Russia
WASHINGTON, Sep 11 – PRIME. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said she sees the risks of a winter rise in oil prices due to the upcoming expansion of anti-Russian sanctions, but she is counting on the effectiveness of the “price ceiling”.
“There is a risk, and to mitigate it, we are working on a price ceiling,” she said in an interview with CNN.
She recalled that in winter the European Union stops the purchase of most of the Russian oil and prohibits the provision of services related to its transportation by sea. “There is a possibility that this will lead to a surge in oil prices,” she said.
The United States, together with its allies, agreed to withdraw from sanctions oil that falls within the price limits that the West intends to set.
