Topco Associates will track the supply of meat and seafood on the blockchain

Topco Associates, the largest US grocery retailer, has announced plans to use Mastercard’s blockchain solution to track supply chains.

According to a press release, Topco is testing the Wholechain platform, developed by Envisible, a logistics company, using the Mastercard Provenance blockchain solution. Using the blockchain, the retail chain will track the supply of meat and seafood.

“Consumers have the right to expect reliable information about the foods they eat. We are delighted to work with Food City and Envisible to test the food chain tracking solution and expect a lot from the Wholechain platform, ”said Scott Caro, vice president of Topco.

Mastercard payment company has already registered more than 100 patents in the field of blockchain. Mastercard Provenance solution offers a registry protected from unauthorized access with high bandwidth, increased security and confidentiality of transactions.

Blockchain is increasingly being used to track food supplies. Walmart’s retail chain recently announced a partnership with IBM to track shrimp shipments from the Indian region of Andra Pradesh, and in South Korea they will use blockchain to track shipments for school meals.
