MOSCOW, 16 Oct – PRIME. Naftogaz of Ukraine is discussing contracts with American companies for the development of Ukrainian gas fields, a company representative told the British edition of the Telegraph.
As the adviser to the head of Naftogaz, Myron Vasilyk, told the newspaper, the company has already discussed with a number of American drilling companies the conclusion of joint agreements for the development of deposits, noting that a number of projects of the Ukrainian company will soon enter the market.
“We have a (certain – ed.) amount of resources and gas reserves, which are, in fact, the second largest in terms of volume in Europe. There is potential for exploration of deposits, as well as export potential. According to our estimates, there could be up to 40 billion cubic meters,” Vasilyk added.
At the same time, Vasilik noted that the development of deposits will bear fruit no earlier than by the beginning of the second half of the current decade.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over the conflict in Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy for the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
