Ukrainian troops are trying to prevent the visit of the IAEA to the ZNPP, Pushilin said

MOSCOW, August 30 – PRIME. Ukrainian troops are shelling the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in order to disrupt the visit of the IAEA mission to the facility, said the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin.

“For the sake of PR, in order for Ukraine to continue to present itself as a victim, they are ready to do literally anything. They do not reckon with the civilian population in the liberated territories, they do not reckon with their military personnel. But what is even more monstrous is that they are shelling Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, they want to prevent the arrival of the IAEA mission so that they cannot stop what is happening now,” he said in a video in the Telegram messenger.

According to the head of the DPR, Vladimir Zelensky understands what a catastrophe the shelling of the ZNPP can turn into, but ignores it. In addition, Western countries, Pushilin stressed, continue to “stoke the fire of madness in Ukraine.”

Earlier on Monday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the organization’s mission is already heading to the Zaporozhye NPP and will arrive on site this week. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, noted that the agency’s specialists set off in the morning.

Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been guarded by the Russian military to prevent leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the ZNPP adjacent to the city.
