Uzbekistan considers Russia a strategic partner in the IT field

SAMARKAND, 24 Oct – PRIME. Russia is a strategic partner of Uzbekistan in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) in many areas – from education to the Internet, Oleg Pekos, First Deputy Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic, told RIA Novosti on Monday.

Russia noted the growth of trade with Uzbekistan

ICT week opened in Samarkand on Monday. Within its framework, in particular, the ICT summit, the ICTEXPO exhibition, the Digital Eurasia forum will be held. The participants of the week will be about 100 foreign companies, as well as international and regional organizations in the field of communications.

“Russia is a strategic partner in many areas,” Pekos said on the sidelines of the summit, commenting on cooperation with the Russian Federation in the field of ICT. He said that last week a large list of projects was discussed with the Russian side – from the educational sphere to cooperation on the Internet, within the framework of the ICT week, the visit of the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadayev is expected.

The first deputy head of the Ministry of Information and Communications of Uzbekistan specified that Russian companies take part in the ICT week in three areas. In particular, Yandex, Megafon, Russmart, Innotech will share their experience in digital transformation technologies in the Smart City direction. “On artificial intelligence, work is being carried out separately with Skolkovo, and we are also cooperating with a number of Russian participants in the field of education,” Pekos said.

According to him, the participation of IT companies from the Russian Federation in the ICT week in Uzbekistan has increased by 5-6 times over the past two or three years. “That is, this is a market, and all conditions are created for companies to develop. And we see this trend improving every year,” Pekos said.

Pekos noted that more than 60% of Uzbek citizens today watch video and Internet content in Russian. “Therefore, of course, in order to receive this quality content, the shortest way is through the Russian Federation,” the First Deputy Minister added.
