Videos about cryptocurrencies have been deleted from YouTube

On December 23, YouTube started deleting videos about cryptocurrencies posted by users. Apparently, both the old channels, which have several tens of thousands of subscribers, and those with few views, were affected.

According to official statements, the videos were deleted because they “contained negative or dangerous content” and violated the rule regarding the promotion of regulated products.

The affected users protested on Twitter and Reddit, because their appeals were rejected. Three days later, Youtube apologized for the error and announced that it would republish the clips in the case.

“With the massive volume of videos on our site, we sometimes make the wrong decisions. When we are alerted that a video has been deleted incorrectly, we act quickly to republish it. We also give users the opportunity to call for deletions and we will review the content, “

said the YouTube spokesperson. He also claimed that the platform did not change the policies regarding cryptocurrency videos.

Community reaction

Content creators claim, however, that only part of the material has been republished. E.g, Chris Dunn, which runs an investment education channel with 200,000 subscribers, woke up with the crypto deleted videos:

“Today, YouTube has not only deleted the videos they released yesterday, but they have deleted at least one other video they have never released before.”

Dunn said he doesn’t monetize his videos with commercials. Whether or not removing cryptocurrency clips was a mistake or not, he pointed out that YouTube frequently removes content that it considers controversial or contrary to the interests of advertisers.

A list of those who suffered from this “error” was published on Twitter.

Terms and conditions

On December 10, YouTube updated the terms of use with the following mention:

“YouTube may terminate your access or your Google account to some or all of the Service if YouTube reasonably considers that providing the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.”

Dunn said this rule can be interpreted, meaning YouTube can remove content that is not profitable to them.

The situation has caused panic among the community and stressed the need for platforms that are not sensitive to censorship. Many argue that it is time to move to a decentralized platform, such as the tube.
