Virus Scan Failed Error in Google Chrome Browser

Google Chrome always performs a preliminary scan of the file you are trying to download on your system. In this process, Google Chrome stops downloading suspicious files on the user’s system. But sometimes Google Chrome may stop downloading files for no reason which may be due to a simple error or it may be due to existing corrupted data in Google Chrome browser data.

Solution 1 – Edit the registry

You must modify the registry on your system to fix this problem.

1. At first, press the button Tecla de Windows+R keys together.

2. Then type “regeditar” and click “OK“.

NOTE

Registry Editor is a very sensitive location in your registry. This may cause some problems with your system. You should consider creating a registry backup before proceeding. Follow these simple steps to make a backup:

a. After opening the Registry Editor, tap «Archive” in the menu bar, and then click “To export…“.

B. Keep this backup in a safe place.

3. After creating this backup, expand the left pane like this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPolicies

4. On the left side, look for the “Attached files” subkey under ‘Policies’.

5. If you cannot find this key, right-click «Policieskey ” and click “New>” Y “Wrench“.

6. Name this new key as «Attached files“.

7. Now, make sure you have selected the “Attached files” key on the left panel.

8. After that, on the right side, right click on the space and tap «New>” Y “Valor DWORD (32 bits)“.

9. Name this new value as “ScanWithAntiVirus“.

10. So, double click on it to modify it further.

11. Now, set the value to “1“.

12. Then click “OK” to save the changes.

After that, close the Registry Editor screen and restart your computer. After restarting, start Google Chrome and try running the virus scan again.

Solution 2 – Clear the browser cache

If Chrome cache is corrupted, you may face this problem.

1. At first start Google Chrome.

2. Then press the button Ctrl+H keys together to open the History tab.

3. On the left side, tap on the three bars () in the menu on the far left.

4. Then touch the button “Delete navigation data”, which you will find in the upper left corner of the browser.

5. After that, click on ‘Time Range:’ and select the “All time” from the drop-down menu.

6. Make sure you have checked these options –

Browsing history
Cookies and other site data 
Cached images and files

5. Now, go to “Advanced” section.

6. Next, check the “download history” cash register. Leave the “Passwords and other login data“, “Autocomplete form data” boxes alone.

7. Finally, tap on “Delete data” to delete all browsing data.

Just wait a moment while Google Chrome cleans up your browser data.

Solution 3 – Use Chrome Cleanup Tool

There is a chrome cleanup tool that you can use to clean up Google Chrome.

1. At first, open Google Chrome, if it is not already open.

2. Then tap on the three points () in the right corner and click “Settings“.

3. When Settings opens, tap the button three bars () menu.

4. Now, on the left panel, tap on «Advanced” to enlarge it.

5. After that, tap «reset and clean“.

6. Now touch “clean computer” to continue.

7. To run the cleanup tool, tap «Meet” to let it work.

Now, it will scan for any harmful software and remove it, if any. After that, close and restart Google Chrome. Check if this solves the problem or not.

Solution 4 – Open an incognito tab

If you are facing this problem in a normal tab, please open a new incognito tab and then try to download it again.

1. At first, open Google Chrome.

2. Then tap on the three points menu and touch the “Incognito new tab” to open a new incognito tab.

Once the new tab opens, try to download the file again.

Solution 5 – Disable all extensions

Try disabling all extensions in Google Chrome and check further.

1. At first, open Google Chrome.

2. Then, three points menu () and click “More tools>“.

3. Then touch “extensions” to open the list of extensions in Google Chrome.

4. In this extension list, disable all extensions one by one.

After disabling all the extensions, close the Google Chrome browser once. Then restart it. When Chrome opens, try the download again.

Check if this solves the problem.

Solution 6 – Check for Chrome updates

Google keeps patching Google Chrome with frequent version updates. Update Google Chrome on your system.

1. At first, open Google Chrome.

2. Then click on the three points () and click “Help” and touch “About Google Chrome“.

Chrome will automatically perform a search for the latest version of Google Chrome. The new version will be downloaded automatically.

This may take a while.

5. Once you’re done, tap «Relaunch” to restart the browser.

After restarting Chrome, check if you are still facing the virus scan failed error.

Solution 7 – Reset Google Chrome browser

If nothing works, you can easily reset Google Chrome.

1. Open a new tab in Google Chrome.

2. Now, catch this line in the address bar and press Get into.

chrome://settings/reset

3. Then tap on “Restore settings to their original defaults” to access it.

4. After that, tap «reset settings” to access it.

Finally after restarting Google Chrome it should work fine. Your problem should be fixed.
