VK intends to return the ability to download the Mail.ru application in the App Store

MOSCOW, 28 Sep — PRIME. VK is doing everything possible to return the ability to download and update the Mail.ru application downloaded from the App Store, follows from the mailing list received by mail service customers.

On Monday, many VK applications, including VK Play, “VK Music”, “VK Clips”, “VK Messenger” and “VK Admin”, as well as “Mail․ru Mail” and “Mail.ru Cloud” stopped appearing when searching in the App Store. VK confirmed the removal of several applications from the marketplace, but noted that all previously installed services continue to work as usual.

“We have sent a request to Apple and are doing our best to restore the ability to download and update the application,” the message says.

The mailing also asks customers not to delete or update the app, “we can’t say exactly when it will be available for download at this time.”

It is explained that if mail from Mail‌.ru is already installed on the smartphone, mail service clients will not notice the changes. The current version will continue to work, and all data remains completely safe, the message adds.

Earlier Wednesday, Roskomnadzor demanded that Apple explain the reasons for the removal of Russian applications from the App Store, including VK services. An Apple spokesperson also told The Verge earlier Wednesday that the removal of VK services from the App Store was due to UK sanctions. Somewhat later, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, said that there were no grounds for removing VK applications from the App Store, the department regards this decision as unfriendly to Russian users.
