A report published by BitMEX highlights the main actors who participate in funding of development of the queen of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin.
The research branch of the Seychelles crypto-exchange, BitMEX Research, has put online a ranking grouping together startups who are currently working on the development of Bitcoin and dedicated solution Lightning.
According to the document, Blockstream and Lightning Labs, with 8 full-time developers respectively, are the 2 companies that employ the most people to advance cryptocurrency.
Square Crypto, the subsidiary of Jack Dorsey's payment company, closes the podium with 6 Bitcoin specialists. French At five, which recently raised 8 million euros, ranks 8th with 4 developers.
Blockstream and Lightning Labs are the biggest contributors to open source development in the ecosystem, "wrote analysts.
BitMEX Research also identified the 33 most important Bitcoin Core contributors in terms of commits, then attempted to establish their current funding source.
This time, Chaincode Labs represents the greatest financial support for development, ahead of Blockstream and logically Lightning Labs, which focuses on Lightning and not Bitcoin Core.
While the situation may improve, in our opinion, the data indicates that the ecosystem is in a reasonably solid situation with regard to funding of developers,”Concludes the report.
Until 2014, the Bitcoin foundation was the only significant player to support the project. Thanks to higher prices, the funding would be much more "decentralized" today than in the past.
