Will NVIDIA video cards cost even less in a few weeks?

The drop in the price of video cards has not yet reached the ideal values ​​that we would all like to see but it is palpable and, over the next few weeks, it could become even more evident. Second Wccftech, NVIDIA would have informed their partners of a reduction of its basic costs from 8 to 12% that should be transmitted along the supply chain, until it reaches the final consumers.

Over the next few weeks (exhausted existing inventory) NVIDIA GPU prices should then drop further than the trend already underway. It is not known at the moment what is the origin of this drop in costs for NVIDIA, if the production yields of the GPUs at Samsung are improving or if it is other components that have led to the rumored decrease in costs.

There are those who hypothesize that the cut has to do with the next passage of Ethereum from PoW (Proof of Work) to PoS (Proof of Stake), and therefore the lack of GPU purchases by miners, but also those who believes it may be a repositioning in view of the release of Intel video cards expected in the second quarter.

The latter seems to us a somewhat reckless idea and we believe that the alleged cut must be traced back to a simple revision policy that all companies practice periodically. If we really had to propose an impromptu thesis, the cut could also have to do with the arrival of the RTX 3090 Ti at the end of March, with a downward repositioning of the existing lineup.

Whether one interpretation or the other is correct, the rumor can only give hope to thousands of gamers who have been wanting to buy a new video card for too many months and are forced to give up due to the excessive prices linked to the shortage situation that has affected the entire semiconductor production chain by the outbreak of the pandemic.
