Xi Jinping urges to strengthen nuclear and space security

BEIJING, Oct 16 – PRIME. China needs to increase security in the nuclear and space fields, as well as in the field of key infrastructure, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President Xi Jinping said during a speech at the 20th Congress of the CPC on behalf of the 19th Central Committee of the Party.

“It is necessary to strengthen the construction of a system to ensure security in the field of economy, key infrastructure, finance, the Internet, data, biology and resources, as well as in the nuclear, space and maritime sectors,” he said.

The 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China is being held in Beijing from October 16 to 22. It is attended by almost 2.3 thousand delegates from all over the country, representing over 96.5 million party members. The congress will sum up the results of the CPC’s five-year work, outline the goals that the party and the country will strive to achieve in the next five years, consider amendments to the party’s charter, and also elect a new composition of the Central Committee and the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

After the closing of the congress, the first plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee is to be held, which will appoint the top leadership of the party – members of the Politburo and the Standing Committee of the Politburo. Observers believe that current CCP Secretary General Xi Jinping will remain in office for a third term.
